Basenji is still a relatively new name on our radar, and this is only his third official release, but take a listen to his latest offering and you'll soon realize this guy is gonna be around for a while. His music is very much electronic, but the sheer number of sounds he's able to corral into one song is astounding, and there are enough elements to make you consider "Dawn" as something else entirely. The track kicks things off with what can only be described as the collective efforts of a marching band, and it doesn't stop moving forward from there. Complete with horn stabs and sharp chord hits, "Dawn" doesn't let up, and it succeeds in sucking you right into the drop, which, happens to be rather innovative itself. Normally drops try to expand the song's sound while making it grander in scope, but we think that Basenji considers the method a bit white bread, because he switches things up and launches the song into a quietly funky set of notes that will have you pleasantly surprised and absolutely itching for a replay.
