Banoffee has certainly raised an eyebrow or two with prior efforts leading up to her debut EP, Two Bright Lakes, and, as we’ve come to expect, the five-piece project saunters through several unoccupied sonic territories, delivering gorgeously in an ever-volatile manner. Martha’s highly sedative vocals are unquestionably the emanating factor of her sound, but let’s not take away any attention from the production which is exceedingly mediative in itself. “Got It” is the inaugural effort on the EP, and even though we've thoroughly immersed ourselves in the piece about a month ago, there isn’t the slightest reason not to delve into the piece yet again, as Brown’s endearing vocals and stirring percussive additions reminds us why we fell in love with the effort initially. The peculiarly titled "Ohhhh Owwww" comes next, and it engenders a poignant tenor you wouldn’t expect with influential snares and emerging cuts throughout. Each element works to decorate the unearthly yet enchanting vocals that accompany them, and, we must say, the assertive lyricism is indeed worth a mention, as it adds further character to the piece. With galactic instrumentations besides them, too, the vibe given off is almost too perplexing to define, but, nevertheless, a pleasure to absorb yourself into. “Reign Down” is another HD-featured piece, and there wouldn’t be a better time to dive into it again than now, as it compliments the preceding track ideally due to its particularly enrapturing vocals, vehement percussion, mystifying synths, and shadowing pitch-shifting cuts. The final highlight of the project is entitled “Lets Go To The Beach”, and it's quite unexpectedly more buoyant than the preceding efforts. Like the rest of the EP, though, the vocals are the focal point of the track, and with the assist of a clap-heavy beat, the piece certainly prompts several head-nods. Well-mixed and edited future sounds, sudden saw-like synth inclusions, and subtle effects render Brown’s vivacious vocals delightful, and they are sure to precipitate smiles for any of those suffering from back-to-school despair.
