After the release of her sophomore album, The Altar, six months ago, it seemed unlikely we would get any new music from BANKS for a while. It came as a pleasant surprise, therefore, when she released a new track today, "Crowded Places." The song, which is a passionate, introspective effort in which she details how badly she wants to escape a life of being in the public eye, is a change of pace from the tone of The Altar. Whereas The Altar is a confident, unabashed celebration of independence, "Crowded Places" is more reliant on this unnamed person she is longing for. Sparse but poignant production from Tim Anderson cements the quiet, whispering qualities of the song, and we can't get enough of it right now. There's no word on whether or not "Crowded Places" is part of a project or just a one-off release, but, if you need some peace in your life, BANKS has it for you here.
