BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah — Sour Soul

BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah

Sour Soul

What we thought at one point was just a one-time collaboration between Torontonian three-piece BADBADNOTGOOD and Wu-Tang’s still-prospering Ghostface Killah about nine months ago has gradually unfolded over time and ascended into a collective 12-track LP entitled Sour Soul, and it's a good one. The already-featured, Elzhi-accompanied “Gunshowers”, Danny Brown's assisted work, “Six Degrees”, and the project's namesake in track form are obvious standouts from the body of work, but it’s the collection of the efforts that we’re most concerned with here, as every piece complements the next in stunning fashion. It seems that GK’s flow hasn’t aged in the slightest bit, and in terms of delivery, we’re almost befuddled by his continued ability to soar in one of the most volatile music scenes today. BADBADNOTGOOD is unquestionably at their apex on this project alongside GK, too, as they manage to stick to their funk-ridden routines while simultaneously tiptoeing through a timeline of hip-hop vibes. From their brilliant, extemporary instrumentation, to their nostalgia-inducing drums, BBNG brings an almost unbridled medley of past and present-flavored grooves throughout, and with the legendary rap flare that Killah puts forth, we've an extraordinarily solid project on our hands.
