Atmosphere — My Notes

Atmosphere

My Notes

Slug and Ant have been gracing our ears for over a decade collectively as the indie hip-hop group Atmosphere and are now back again to pluck our heartstrings with some more good music for humans. Of course we can't leave out the new editions to the band since 2008 and that is Nate Collis on the guitar and Erick Anderson on the keys. Since the release of their 2008 album, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold, the sound of Atmosphere has gone the way of live instrumentation that gives them more than just a hip-hop vibe. Atmosphere have always progressed in a good way and kept the music good. So as with their always great live show the expectations are always there for their new studio albums. We now embark on a the brand new full length that is being released today (April 12th). The Family Sign takes on subject matter from stories of family life, relationships, fatherhood, and the various emotions as a result of these things. Slug has always been one of hip-hop's best story tellers and with his writing on, The Family Sign, he just re-confirms that statement. While there is no doubt that this album musically and lyrically is top notch, I just don't think it has much replay value. This album definitely has a place for a great listen to match a mellow mood. It's not the album you will be bumping in your car or have on steady replay but it will be that album you need to have in your collection. Especially if you have been a fan of Atmosphere for years. My favorite song on the album was actually the very last track and the sad thing it is the shortest! Make sure to grab the album from the itunes link above!
