Perhaps the most iconic Icelandic artist over the past few years has been Ásgeir, whose debut album, Dyrd í dauðathogn, was wildly popular in his home country. He didn't really start to see his full star potential until releasing an English version of the project, In the Silence, over a year later, however, and now, after quite a few years of creative development, he's returned with "Unbound", the first single from his new album and a very pleasant departure from his prior work. While Ásgeir's first album was folk-oriented, we're now hearing a more electronically inclusive, experimental sound. Longtime fans have no need to be concerned, however, because he's done a brilliant job evolving into something new while still possessing the delicacy of his first project. You'll want to take a listen to this one, and definitely get excited for the May 5 release of his sophomore album, Afterglow. There are sure to be more singles out before then.
