It's been a huge year for the UK duo Aquilo. They popped up last year with plenty of promise, but we never expected them to achieve the musical level they've ascended to this year. They touched the hearts of the music world with their incredibly emotive single, "I Gave It All", and if we had a year-end list entitled, "The Saddest Songs of 2014", this song would take the number on spot by a landslide. The guys followed up with a less melancholic, but equally fantastic song with "Human", which featured production from the sonic sorcerer, SOHN, but now, we've finally their new EP that goes by the same name, and it features two brand-new tracks in addition to the aforementioned ones. In the first of the new efforts, "Best of Us", we hear another song with touching lyrics about loss, yet this time, the instrumental beneath is composed primarily of fresh electronic percussion, dreamy synths, and shadowy soundscapes to bolster the sentiments. "Losing You" is the concluding track on the EP, and in it, the lead vocals really flex their breathtaking nature atop a brilliantly orchestrated instrumental containing filled with heart-tugging violins, soft piano chords, and orchestral percussion. We're constantly amazed at the vast range of emotion conveyable through music, and Aquilo has done an exceptional job transporting feelings of heartbreak and comfort through their new EP.
