About half a year ago, we were graced by a stijl & Delinq collaboration, "Seoul Searching", that came into being due to a Korean vacation. And though the two maestros proved to work flawlessly in tandem, they each manage to have their own distinct sonic finesse, as we now throw our attention to the Seoul-native and present Swede, Anton Borin (formerly Delinq). Borin has been through quite a pioneering excursion in search of his true sound, and even though two years of work might not show uniformity in any particular genre, it does, unquestionably, bleed quality. With a fairly low but loyal fanbase, it’s time Anton gets the interest he deserves, and with "Past Mirrors", we think we've found the best option to get instantly immersed in his brand of chillwave. Dismantling one of the more eminent tracks of Chase & Status', “Time”, Borin delicately musters up a set of vocal samples courtesy of Delilah, and gives them an unparalleled treatment that contain endless coats of sonic pleasure. Anton certainly renders the vocal cuts to his satisfaction by using some tantalizing filters, repeated echoes, and timely reverb and delay effects, but he still manages to keep the pitch-shifting at a bare minimum. Beautifully crafted, well-released drums, unceasing percussive additions, and those aforementioned vocal cuts navigate through the droning chord progressions in impeccable fashion, generating a mellow vibe that fails to subside throughout, and Anton certainly makes a statement on this pristine concoction, putting himself amongst some seriously elite crowd in this trademark of electronic.
