If you grew up in the 90s and are a fan of hip-hop, you understand that something special a throw-back track done right can have. Whipping up feelings of nostalgia isn't something that happens at the drop of a hat - it takes talent and a unique sense of what that era really meant to the people who call it a part of their past. Hailing from disparate parts of the US but sharing a love for that old-school vibe, Houston emcee Anti-Lilly and Portland producer Phoniks are teaming up to release an as-yet untitled EP to be released in early 2014. "Respiration" is the first single from the project, and features the vocal talents of Detroit emcee Scolla, who along with Anti-Lilly is a member of the RLES Society. Xylophony bells, funky throw-back jazzy horns, vocal samples, fuzzy kicks and drop-dead lyrics that will keep you guessing and keep you thinking are simply the norm on this track.
