American Royalty — Mariah (Lamadrid Remix)

American Royalty

Mariah (Lamadrid Remix)

This is not your average rework. While yes, anything purposefully different from the original version could be considered a remix (or rework), the vast majority of the efforts lend themselves to a more modern interpretation with computer sounds galore, as well as a production style that does more to chop up the composition than to smooth it out. Breaking from that mould in a very big way, Lamadrid has decided to make his version of American Royalty's "Mariah" just as classic as on the original, but also to embrace the vintage aesthetic that American Royalty achieved with the vocals, especially. Rather than letting the throwback vibe stop there, though, San Juan has launched his version into the annals of audio history and turned what was once a darkly synth pop track into something that sounds like it's being played in black and white. It's quite possibly the farthest thing artistically form the original, but for some strange reason, it just makes so much sense. It's a huge win for the remix world, and it's got us very excited for what else San Juan Project has in the works. If you're in NYC, you can catch American Royalty at the Brooklyn Night Bazaar on Saturday 15th March co-headlining with Young Galaxy. More info HERE.
