Sophomore albums can be very tricky, and that's especially the case when the one preceding it is a massive hit. Back in 2012, Alabama Shakes were the new kids on the block, and their debut album, Boys & Girls, brought a wave of acclaim and attention to the previously unknown act. Now, however, after three years of touring and creating, the group has returned to the scene with an album that's chock-full of genuinely fantastic music, and we're ecstatic to finally have their new project, Sound & Color, for our pure listening pleasure. Right off the bat, we hear the band begin to branch out from their previous sound in the fantastic title track—full of modulating vibraphones, charming strings, and a cleverly crafted drum kit. Additionally, Shakes prove that they can hit a more upbeat sound with what was their brilliant lead single, "Don't Wanna Fight", but if a stripped-down, mellower sound appeals to you most, you can also find that aesthetic in efforts like "This Feeling". Sound & Color undoubtedly lives up to the substantial hype surrounding it, so be sure to grab a copy of it on iTunes today. Also, if you're interested in seeing Alabama Shakes in concert, be sure to check out their worldwide tour dates on their website. Stream Sound & Color on Spotify.
