We’ve known Akouo particularly for his adept ability to rework and in fact overhaul tracks in the past, but every so often, he drops a piece that solely involves his contribution on all musical fronts. “Pieces” is his most recent body of work we’re highlighting that fits that billing, and being seasoned listeners of the Tasmanian’s sound, we’re far from astonished at the complexity of the instrumental and the nifty vocal inclusions that see a wave of effects throughout—though we know any newcomer to his work will likely be enchanted by it all. Heavily-textured percussion is a signature of Akouo’s style, and “Pieces” shines through with ingenious, tinny sounds in the backdrop that are occasionally masked by highly buoyant drum sequences, vivacious toms, and an ideal measure of distorted bass. The vocals are an area the artist dives into now and then, and he executes delightfully in this case, fading in appropriately and ricocheting off each beat without the slightest mishap. It's all basically more of the Akouo you love. “Pieces” marks Akouo’s first single from an upcoming EP, so we’ll be having a watchful eye and ear out for the project.
