If you grew up listening to hip-hop in the 90's or early 2000's, chances are pretty good that you still love the genre to this day as much as you loved it back then. However, If you're like me, you probably also find that (compared to other genres) very few new up-and-coming acts push the boundaries of the genre. Sure, hip-hop music has its champions holding that torch right now, but as far as being excited about the genre as much as you were back in the day, it's just not the same. Maybe it's due to age or maybe it's just evolving taste; whatever this case is though, no matter where you're coming from in your life right now, the evolved sound of NYC rapper, After The Smoke, is exciting enough to re-up some of that spark. On his new project, Microwaves, the rapper/designer/developer juggles your typical rapping subjects, but where Rob Coin really shines is with his buttery rapping cadences that move through slight singing pitches at times over electronic-tinted, golden-era production. On one track you could compare him to the east-coast version of Devin the Dude ("To The Head"), and on other tracks like "Drunk Bitches", you could compare him to a careless and free-flowing Andre 3000. Needless to say, there is much to be had with this album, and we definitely suggest you listen to it HERE. Although we have our highlights below for you, this is one of those albums that will have different favorites for differents people. Get into it ASAP.
