Scottish vocalist A-L-X has dropped two tracks so far, and both of them have been great. Today, he's back with another, and though it still sits within the soul genre he's occupied, it sounds markedly different from his first two efforts. What he has with "Timebomb", rather, is what you could call a throwback sound, one beckoning to the days of gospel-soul and led by dingy-sounding guitars and rough-around-the-edges recording techniques. It is 2014, of course, and we do have the power to achieve perfect recordings, but there's something always appealing about rough-sounding tracks in a context where they aren't anymore familiar, and with "Timebomb", that's just what we have.
